First up: YOU GUYS. *blushes* Thank you so much for the supportive and lovely emails and comments on my last post. This diabetes/blood sugar stuff is such a trainwrek and so hard to deal with, but every email and comment and text message I got after that was like a supportive hug, and there is no way to write that sentence without sounding massively cheesey, but IT'S TRUE. You all make me feel so loved. What would I do without the Internet? *sloppy kisses for you all*
*insert segue here*
I don’t know if it is the blood sugar anxiety or what, but my insomnia has returned full-force recently, and it makes me want to remove my eyeballs with a melon-baller. I feel like I’ve asked for advice a million times and tried every non-pill bit of it, but if anyone has any New! Awesome! Sleeplessness! Cures! I’d be more than happy to hear them. Heck, if you have a particular over the counter sleep medication recommendation I might even be willing to try that. I hate taking pills for things, but I also hate being up at 2:17am FOR THE DAY. Yes, you read that right. Yesterday I woke up at 2:17am and never fully got back to sleep. I stayed in bed “resting my eyes” and quietly hating my wife as she slept soundly beside me. Most days I wake up around 4am, which is better, but still stupidly early. And that is with at least two 30 minute wake-ups somewhere in the middle of the night. And I’m not going to bed crazy early, either. We go to bed somewhere between 9:30 and 10:00 and it takes me about an hour to fall asleep. Madness!
Things I’ve previously tried that have not worked: melatonin, S.A.D. full-spectrum light in the morning (I still do this for mood reasons, but it seems to have no effect on my sleep), exercise in the morning, exercise in the evening, no caffeine after noon, then no caffeine ever (almost four years caffeine free at this point), lavender-scented things, warm beverages at bedtime, no beverages within an hour of bedtime, snacks, no snacks, etc. Getting my wife to thwap me in the head with a cast-iron frying pan is starting to sound like a good idea.
In related news, I’ve made half a dozen new play-lists on my iPod and reorganized the screens on my iPhone. If someone wants to buy me an iPad, I’ll happily organize that as well.
