This is how we always cooked when I was a kid. Most of my family recipes start with instructions along the lines of "brown three pounds of hamburger". As I'm an only child, you can imagine that such recipes were more for filling the freezer than anything. Currently my freezer is full of pizza sauce, BBQ sauce, BBQ pulled pork, pulled chicken, chili, and pizza burgers. YUM.
The key to successful freezing of food is to portion everything out in baggies and freeze them lying flat, like this.
Why is this important, you ask? Because then you can have a nice, organized freezer, like this.
My anal-retentiveness knows no bounds. I also have enough butter on hand for more baking than I'll do all winter. IT WAS ON SALE.
I also cleaned the cupboards this weekend and had a little too much fun organizing my own little canned-good army. (THEY WERE ON SALE.)
Now I'm ready just in case little gray men from outer space invade Chicago. They'll be hungry after traveling that far, SOMEONE has to feed all of them.
